About Us

Welcome to our lives. This is our story about hiking, camping, cooking, the out doors, cool vintage stuff, form and function ~ puppies, fires, friends, but most importantly, love and adventure. This blog is our sketch pad for all the things we like, find beautiful and want to share. More importantly it is a journal for us to look back on and remember those bright moments in our lives that we hope to never forget.

Thank you for stopping by. We hope you visit us again really soon.

About Him (Don)

I grew up in Oklahoma, with a family of not very outdoorsy people. They took me camping as much as they could. It must have made an impression because it has become the most important part of my life.

What are your passions?

I love climbing, hiking, backpacking, hunting, friends and fire. The feeling of transcendence in the outdoors as stereotypical as that is, and seeing others and sharing that moment with them makes it worth it.

Why all the old clothes and gear?

I love learning about the recent history of each area I travel to. I have been on a mid 20th century kick for a while. It is where I take my style and methods from currently. It is also the earliest time that can keep me alive in extreme conditions without to much worry. Who knows maybe I’ll be in hand sewn fur robes next.

About Her (Emily)

Tell me about yourself?

I’m just a good ole’ girl from the south, born and raised in Arkansas. Don and I met in undergrad, and ever since we have been mapping out many adventures together. Our first real date, was a two night backpacking trip to Devil’s Den in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Since I had never been backpacking before, I think Don was secretly testing me to see if I was tough enough to get a little dirty. Looks like I passed!

What are some quotes that motivates you?

“Dreams don’t work unless you do”

“There’s no time like the present”

What are your passions?

My biggest passion in life is dancing. I grew up dancing, and studied it my first two years of college. Unfortunately I sustained a injury where I had to choose surgery or take time off from dancing so I switched majors instead. At a crossroads after college, I really knew I wanted to dance but didn’t know the recipe to make that happen. It wasn’t until Don and I moved out to Leadville, CO that I discovered how all the ingredients translated into this passion of mine. Very determined and motivated, I started teaching and choreographing a hip hop aerobics cardio class at our local gym called Move Your Groove Fitness with Emily.  I am still amazed to this day how much support, interest and love I receive through my wonderful community. My goal of the class is to bring people together to share in the experience of dance, while getting happy and healthy all while booty shaking and learning some moves for the dance floor! This truly is my favorite day of the week when I get to teach dance and be surrounded by people that share in this same interest for health and fitness.
